The 2018 Subaru Outback Takes on the All-Wheel Drive Competition

With standard all-wheel drive and a family-friendly, wagon style, the 2018 Subaru Outback we have here at A & T Subaru has long been a favorite with drivers in the Lansdale and Quakertown area.

The 2018 Subaru Outback is the latest model year of this popular vehicle, and it features an assortment of great updates and changes. These updates include a new frontend and front grille design, which includes revised headlights and the addition of LED daytime running lights. Plus, Subaru says a new exterior mirror design reduces cabin noise when this Outback is in motion. Inside, new technology, a new center console, and a new steering wheel design help complete the makeover.

What hasn't changed for 2018, however, is the core reasons why Lansdale families appreciate the Outback. These include the flexibility of a wagon-style body, which gives drivers unmatched cargo capacity, spacious seating for up to five people in two roomy rows, and, of course, Subaru signature, standard all-wheel drive.

The 2018 Subaru Outback vs. the 2018 Volkswagen Gold Alltrack

As much as we love the Subaru Outback we have available on our Sellersville lot, we also know it's not the only crossover vying for the attention of our Quakertown customers. The 2018 Volkswagen Gold Alltrack is a relative newcomer in the wagon-style, all-wheel drive crossover genre, and it may try to steal your attention from the steadfast and true Outback. While on the surface these two wagons appear to have a lot in common, when you delve deeper you discover that the Outback has a little bit more to offer than the Volkswagen. Read on to see the ways we've discovered that the Outback outshines the competition:

  • Performance and power options. While the Volkswagen Golf Alltrack models are all powered by the same, 170-horsepower four-cylinder engine, the Subaru Outback gives you a couple of different options for power. When you choose the Subaru Outback, you can decide on either a 2.5i model, which is powered by a 175-horsepower four-cylinder, or you can choose a 3.6R model, which is equipped with a more-powerful, 256-horsepower six-cylinder engine. Either way, you'll get more power and more get-up-and-go with any Outback model, than you would with the Alltrack wagon.
  • Cargo space. While both of these models have the versatile cargo area that drivers have loved about wagon-style vehicles for decades, you'll be able to transport a bit more in a Subaru Outback than you would in a Volkswagen Alltrack. With the rear seats up, the Outback totes more than 35 cubic feet of groceries, camping gear, or suitcases, but the Alltrack only holds around 30 cubic feet with the backseats up. The Alltrack doesn't fare much better when you compare its maximum capacity with the seats folded, either. In fact, the Outback, with seats folded, holds nearly 74 cubic feet, while the Alltrack tops out at 66.5.
  • Passenger room. The Subaru Outback measures a little larger overall than the Alltrack, with a higher ground clearance for bumps and potholes, and a larger height, width, and length. What this translates to inside the vehicle is more space for you, and your passengers, to stretch out and get comfortable for all of your journeys, whether short or long. In fact, when you compare these two models side by side, the Outback has more headroom, shoulder room, and legroom than the Volkswagen Alltrack.
